2025 US-COPAJU Annual Conference
A judiciary that functions independently is vital to maintaining the rule of law and ensuring that democracy thrives. Courts act as the final safeguard for democratic systems, protecting individual rights and providing checks on the executive and legislative branches. However, recent global trends reveal how democracies can fail when judicial independence is undermined, whether by political interference, lack of resources, or attacks that weaken judicial authority. These threats lead to imbalances that can compromise the democratic process. This conference will gather judges, experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the importance of judicial independence, examine challenges to judiciary integrity, and explore effective strategies for ensuring strong, independent judicial systems that preserve democratic values.
